Weddings
How many guests can Hollowfield hold?
The Reception Hall seats 160 for a sit down dinner with the dance floor in, and 180 without it. Ceremonies in the Garden Pavilion take up to 120 guests, and ceremonies on the lawn up to 180.
For drinks and canapés the lawn and the hall each hold up to 250 standing. Every space, with its layouts, is on the Spaces page.
How do I check a date and put it on hold?
Our Dates page lists every Saturday we are taking bookings for, marked Booked, On hold or Available. Saturdays go first, so ask us to hold one as soon as you find it.
Holds last 7 days while you decide. Fridays and Sundays are not listed, so ask us about them directly.
How much does a wedding at Hollowfield cost?
We do not publish prices. Pricing is shared after a viewing, once we know your date, numbers and menu. Every wedding here is different in size and menu, so we would rather give you a real figure than a range that means nothing.
Can we hold the ceremony and the reception here?
Yes. Ceremonies can be held in the Garden Pavilion, on the lawn in front of the hall, or in the hall itself if the weather turns. Most couples begin between one and three in the afternoon, with drinks on the lawn afterwards and dinner in the hall.
Can we bring our own suppliers?
Bands, DJs, photographers, florists and celebrants can be anyone you choose. We keep a list of people who know the estate well and send it after your viewing, but you are never asked to use it.
Catering is the one exception: our own kitchen cooks every meal, so there is no outside catering. Cakes, sweets and a coffee cart are welcome from your own suppliers.
Food and drink
Do you do the catering yourselves?
Yes. Everything is cooked on site by our own kitchen, from the season's produce, from canapés to the late supper. Menus are set with you at a tasting about four months before the day. See the sample menus.
Can you cater for dietary needs and allergies?
Yes. Dietary needs are handled course by course, not as an afterthought. Tell us each guest’s needs with your final numbers and the chefs plan a matching plate for every course, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, dairy free and nut free.
Can we bring our own cake?
Yes. Cakes, sweets and a coffee cart are welcome from your own suppliers, and the kitchen will plate and serve the cake for you.
How does the bar work?
Our own bar team runs the bar all evening. You choose the wines, beers and soft drinks with us at your tasting, then decide between a set drinks list, a bar tab, or a mix of the two. We do not allow guests to bring their own drinks.
Events
Which days can we hold an event?
Events run on weekdays, Fridays and Sundays, because Saturdays usually go to weddings. In December a few Saturdays are kept for end-of-year parties. As with weddings, we take one booking a day, so your group has the estate to itself.
Can we hold a conference or day meeting?
Yes. Day meetings run from 8:30 am to 5 pm. The Reception Hall seats 220 theatre style, with two large screens, a ceiling projector, a lectern, wireless microphones and fast wifi across the hall, the pavilion and both side rooms.
For breakout sessions, the Tack Room seats 12 around one table and the Hayloft seats 20. The kitchen caters through the day, from arrival coffee to afternoon tea. More on the Events page.
Do you host birthdays and private parties?
Yes. Birthdays, milestone parties, engagements, anniversaries, family reunions and long lunches all happen here, from 30 guests on the Walled Garden's long table to 250 standing in the hall. See birthdays and other celebrations.
When are Christmas party dates?
End-of-year parties run on the Fridays and Saturdays of early December. This is summer here, so most groups start with drinks on the lawn in the long evening light. Current dates and their status are on the Dates page.
Can we book Hollowfield for New Year's Eve?
Yes, for one private party a year. New Year's Eve is the one night with a later finish: music runs until 12:30 am and guests leave the grounds by 1 am. Fireworks and sparklers are not allowed, so we count down on the lawn under the festoon lights with a glass in hand.
Planning your visit
Can we come and see the estate?
Yes, please do. Viewings run on Saturdays from 10 am, and some weekday evenings, and take about an hour. The events team shows you the hall, the pavilion and the kitchen, and answers everything you want to ask. There is no charge and nothing to sign. Book a viewing.
What time does the music finish?
Music ends at 11:30 pm, and the last guests leave the grounds by midnight. The valley carries sound a long way at night, so this time does not change. The reasons are in the planning guide. New Year's Eve is the one exception.
Is the estate accessible?
The hall, the pavilion and the paths between them are step free, and there is an accessible toilet beside the hall. Two parking spaces by the kitchen yard are kept for guests who need them. We lay a firm walkway across the lawn whenever a ceremony is held in the pavilion.
Is there parking?
Yes, free parking on the field beside the hall, with room for coaches. Most groups book a coach or shuttle for the end of the night; the Stay page explains how.
Can we bring our dog?
Assistance dogs are welcome everywhere on the estate. Other dogs are welcome at the ceremony if a named guest looks after them and takes them home before dinner.
What happens if it rains?
Every ceremony, drinks reception and event has a covered plan. The pavilion can be closed on its two windward sides, and the hall can be laid for the ceremony and turned round for dinner. The events team makes the call with you on the morning, and umbrellas for every guest are kept in the hall porch.
Something else?
The planning guide goes into more detail, and the events team answers everything at a viewing.
